i invented buddy lists
...
i invented buddy lists
i've had AOL since way back in the early days.
now, sure, they DID already have a feature so that you could check to see if anyone you knew was online.
you could do a {CTRL} + "L" (or go to some menu and click on "Locate Member Online") and a small blank dialog box would pop-up.
you could then manually type in the name of a single screenname to see if that person was online while you were, (and where).
you had to repeat these clunky steps everytime you wondered about it, for each person you wondered about. *
anyway, as soon as i saw that feature, i sent in a free suggestion to their suggestion box, etc., with no expectations whatsoever of getting credit nor compensation of any sort. i was just sharing my creativity for free. (which is part of my nature -- much to the chagrin of my former creditors).
and the rest is history.
anyway, the next time you think of something cool or useful, send in your thoughts to the people who can make it happen (and it just might do that).
you'd be surprised how simply these things actually work.
which is also why it's vitally important to think good thoughts as much as humanly possible.
...
* before the buddylists finally came to be, i created my own "crippled" version by simply dragging the resultant "locator find" window into my favorite places. this saved me several steps getting to the existing "locator" feature and also saved me the effort of retyping in the screennames.
anyway, when buddylists finally became a feature, i was very pleased.
not for having invented it, but merely for the ability to use it.
