i can't be the only one who's pondered this...

i can't be the only one who's pondered this...

you know that tinyurl.com service out there?

the one that lets you make your long links shorter
for emails, websites, forum posts, etc.?

millions of people use it.

it's very handy.

well... anyway...

what if, one day, the people at tinyurl.com just decided to shut down.

poof.

there goes a zillion historic references and links.

or what if they go broke and can't afford the servers anymore?

poof.

zillions of archived references become instantly meaningless.

or worse yet, they sell the domain and database of links.

and the buyer decides to cause complete chaos.

it's things like this that freak me out.

not to mention considering all of the incredible dynamic
information that the people over at tinyurl.com are amassing.

whoa.

anyway, this is just another reason why the
internet is such an unbelieveably unreliable
medium of information (and communication).

and it's an absolutely horrible archiving place.

...

like i said in the title...

i can't be the only one who's pondered this...

so what do you think about it?
